Banner Printing in New York
Velement prints and finishes custom banners across New York. Vinyl, mesh and fabric banners printed at any size, hemmed and grommeted for the way you are actually hanging them, and delivered or installed by our own teams.
Banners and signs for storefronts, events, trade shows, construction sites and multi-location campaigns in NYC and the tri-state area.
Banners and Signs Finished for Where They Are Going
A banner is the easiest thing in signage to print and the easiest thing to get wrong. Almost every banner that fails does so in the same three ways: it tears at the corners because the eyelets were put in unreinforced material, it turns into a sail and rips off a fence because solid vinyl was used where mesh was needed, or it hangs crooked because nobody asked how it was going up before deciding how to finish it.
Velement brings 30 years of architectural signage and graphics experience to banner printing in New York. We print in our own facility and finish in-house, and we ask where the banner is going and how it is being fixed before we decide the material and the hems. That is not a premium service, it is just the order the questions should be asked in.
That covers one sale banner in one store, and it covers a campaign across thirty locations packed store by store. We work throughout the five boroughs, Long Island, Westchester, northern New Jersey and Connecticut, from our facility in Hicksville, NY.
Our Banner Printing Services
Custom Vinyl Banners
The standard indoor and outdoor banner. Printed on scrim vinyl, hemmed and grommeted, at any size we can print and seam.
Mesh Banners
Perforated so wind passes through instead of pushing against it. The right answer for fences, scaffolding and any elevated exterior position.
Storefront and Retail Banners
Sale, opening and campaign banners for shopfronts and interiors, produced in matched batches when the campaign runs across several stores.
Trade Show and Event Banners
Backdrops, step-and-repeat, hanging and stand banners, produced to a fixed install date and built to travel and be used again.
Construction and Site Banners
Fence, hoarding and sidewalk shed banners. Usually mesh, usually large, and usually with a permitting question attached. See Section 8.
Double-Sided and Blockout Banners
Two printed faces with an opaque layer between them, for banners seen from both sides without one image ghosting through the other.
Fabric and Tension Banners
Printed fabric for interiors, exhibition frames and hanging banners, which hangs softer and packs without creasing the way vinyl does.
Pole, Boulevard and Hanging Banners
Pole pockets top and bottom, reinforced for the bracket system they are going into rather than for a generic one.
Multi-Site Banner Campaigns
One design produced, packed and shipped location by location, with the same colors on the last store as the first.
Banner Materials and What They Suit
Material is the first decision and the one that decides whether the banner survives. This is the section an online printer cannot give you, because they do not know where your banner is going.
| Material | Best for | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Scrim vinyl, standard weight | Indoor banners, short-run outdoor | The default. Strong, printable, economical, takes hems and grommets well |
| Scrim vinyl, heavyweight | Long-life outdoor, large spans, windy positions | Heavier scrim resists tearing and stretching over a long span |
| Mesh | Fences, scaffolding, building faces, any exposed position | Perforations let wind through, so the banner does not act as a sail |
| Blockout / double-sided | Banners seen from both sides, hanging banners | An opaque core stops the reverse image ghosting through |
| Printed fabric / polyester | Interiors, exhibition frames, hanging banners | Hangs softer, packs and travels without permanent creases |
| Canvas and specialty | Premium interior and retail display | A textured finish where a vinyl sheen would look wrong |
Banner Finishing and How It Gets Hung
This is the real differentiator on this page, and it is the section that justifies not being the cheapest. A banner is finished for a specific method of hanging, and getting that wrong is why banners fail.
- Welded or sewn hems: a folded and bonded edge that gives the eyelets something to hold. Grommets punched into unhemmed material is the single most common cause of a torn banner.
- Grommets and spacing: set at intervals appropriate to the span and the exposure, not at a default spacing regardless of size.
- Reinforced corners: extra material at the four points that take the load.
- Pole pockets: top, bottom or both, sized for the actual pole or bracket diameter you are using.
- D-rings, webbing and rope: for suspended banners, gantries and anywhere grommets alone will not take the load.
- Wind slits: where solid material has to go into an exposed position and mesh is not an option.
- Frames, stands and cables: banner frames, roll-up and free-standing stands, and tensioned cable systems for repeat installations.
Poster Printing in New York
We print posters for retail, hospitality and events, from single display pieces to campaign runs across multiple locations. Printed on poster paper, board-mounted where a poster has to stand up on its own, or laminated where it is going somewhere it will be handled.
Poster options
- Standard and large format poster sizes, plus non-standard sizes cut to your frame
- Matte, satin and gloss finishes
- Mounted on foamboard, PVC or aluminum composite for freestanding and wall display
- Laminated for handling, cleaning or short-term outdoor positions
- Backlit poster printing for lightboxes and illuminated frames
- Campaign runs printed in matched batches and packed by destination
Banners and Signs by Sector
- Retail and storefronts. Sale, opening and seasonal campaign banners. Fast turnaround matters more here than anywhere else, because the promotion has a start date.
- Events and trade shows. Backdrops, step-and-repeat and stand banners to a fixed install date. The artwork always arrives late and the date never moves.
- Construction and development. Fence, hoarding and sidewalk shed banners during build. Almost always mesh, and the position often raises a permitting question.
- Restaurants and hospitality. Opening banners, promotions, outdoor dining and seasonal messaging.
- Sports, schools and community. Field and gym banners, sponsor boards, event and fundraising banners, built to be reused across seasons.
- Property and real estate. Leasing and development banners on buildings and fences, sized to be read from across the street.
- Corporate and internal. Conference, town hall and campaign banners, usually fabric because they have to travel and be stored.
From Artwork to Hung Banner
- Brief. Size, quantity, where it is going, how it is being fixed, and how long it needs to last. Those five answers decide everything else.
- Material and finishing specified. Vinyl, mesh, blockout or fabric, with hems, grommets, pockets or rings chosen for the fixing method.
- Artwork check. Files checked for resolution at the finished size and viewing distance, with bleed allowed for hems so nothing important gets folded into the edge.
- Permits, where relevant. Large banners on buildings, scaffolding and sidewalk sheds in New York City can require permits depending on size, position and duration. We raise it at briefing rather than on install day.
- Printing and finishing. Printed and finished in our own facility, seamed where the size exceeds a single width.
- Packing or installation. Rolled and packed by destination for shipping, or fitted by our own teams where the position needs it.
Why Businesses Choose Velement for Banners
We finish for the fixing method
Tell us how it is going up and the hems, grommets and pockets are set for that. An online order form cannot ask that question.
The right material for the position
Mesh where there is wind, blockout where both sides are seen, fabric where it has to travel. Specified rather than defaulted.
30 years in signage and graphics
We also make the permanent signage, so a temporary banner is specified by people who know what the site will do to it.
Printed and finished in-house
No third party between the print and the hems, so the timeline is ours to hold.
Colors matched across a campaign
A banner run across thirty stores over two months still matches on the last one.
We can install as well as ship
For large, high or awkward positions where a rolled tube arriving at reception is not the end of the job.
Frequently Asked Questions About Banner Printing:
What material should my banner be printed on?
It depends on where it is going. Indoors or short-run outdoors, scrim vinyl. Anywhere exposed to wind, especially a fence or scaffolding, mesh. Seen from both sides, blockout. Traveling to events and being stored, fabric. Tell us the position and we will specify it rather than leaving you to guess.
What size can you print?
Effectively any size. Beyond a single material width we seam panels together, and very large banners are produced in sections designed to align on site. Tell us the finished size and the position and we will confirm how it is best built.
Do you print posters as well as banners?
Yes. Standard and large format posters, mounted on board where they need to stand alone, laminated for handling, and backlit poster prints for lightboxes and illuminated frames.
Do banners in New York City need a permit?
Sometimes. Large banners on buildings, scaffolding and sidewalk sheds can require permits depending on size, position and how long they are up. Interior and standard storefront banners generally do not. Raise it with us at the briefing and we will tell you what we know about your particular position.
How quickly can you print a banner?
Banners are among the faster things we produce, but the honest answer depends on size, material, finishing and whether it needs installing. Tell us the deadline when you enquire and we will confirm whether it is achievable before you commit.
