Window Film for Glass That Has to Work Harder
Glass offices have a problem that glass offices created. Every partition is transparent, every meeting room is on display, and everybody can see who is in the room and what is on the screen. Window film is the cheapest fix for that, and it is also the only one that can carry your branding at the same time.
Velement brings 30 years of architectural signage experience to window film in New York. That matters because most film jobs are not really film jobs. A frosted band at seated eye height is a privacy decision, a manifestation decision and a design decision at once, and the boardroom door usually wants the room name cut into the film rather than stuck on beside it. We do the film and the lettering, because we make both.
That covers one meeting room, and it covers every pane on the floor of a fit-out. We work throughout the five boroughs, Long Island, Westchester, northern New Jersey and Connecticut, from our facility in Hicksville, NY.
Our Window Film Services
Frosted and Etched-Effect Film
The standard for office glass. An even frost that reads as sandblasted glass at a fraction of the cost, and reversible in a way that etched glass is not.
Privacy Film and Banding
Full-height or banded film set at the height that actually solves the problem, whether that is screens, seated sightlines or a reception desk.
Glass Manifestation
Film marking that makes a full-height glass pane visible, so nobody walks into it. Usually combined with the privacy and branding requirement rather than added separately.
Decorative and Patterned Film
Gradients, stripes, dot and line patterns, geometric and custom designs. The pattern does the privacy work and the decorative work at the same time.
Printed and Branded Film
Logos, room names, wayfinding and full-color printed graphics on film, color matched to your brand.
Cut Lettering on Film
Room names, department and floor identification cut into or applied over the film, so the glass carries the information rather than a plaque beside it.
Storefront and Display Film
Frosted and printed film on shop and showroom glass, for privacy at the back of house and messaging at the front.
Multi-Floor and Multi-Site Film Programs
One film specification applied consistently across every partition on a floor, or every office in an estate, installed out of hours.
Frosted Window Film
Frosted film gives you the look of sandblasted or acid-etched glass without touching the glass. It is applied to the existing pane, it can be cut to any shape or pattern, and it can be removed later, which matters a great deal in leased Manhattan space where the glass has to go back the way it was found.
It is the workhorse of office glass. It obscures what is behind it while still passing light, so a meeting room stays bright and stops being a fishbowl. It hides the mess of a back-of-house area without building a wall. And because it can be cut, the frost itself becomes the design: a band, a gradient, a pattern, or a shape that carries the room name.
Frosted film patterns
Solid frost, banded frost at a set height, horizontal and vertical stripe, dot and line gradients, geometric repeats, custom patterns cut from your own artwork. The images on this page show installed examples of most of these, including grid, plus-motif, horizontal stripe and geometric line patterns.
Frosted film with lettering
The strongest use of frosted film is the one most suppliers do not offer, because it needs a sign maker rather than a film fitter. Room names, floor identification, logos and neighborhood names cut into or reversed out of the frost, so the glass does the privacy job and the identification job together. There are installed examples of exactly this on this page already.
Privacy Window Film
Privacy film is bought to solve a specific complaint. Somebody can see a screen. The meeting room is exposed. The clinic waiting area looks into the treatment room. The ground floor office is level with the sidewalk. Each of those has a different answer, and the answer is usually a height rather than a product.
The question we ask first is what needs to be hidden and from where. Screens need coverage at desk height. Seated privacy in a meeting room needs a band that starts lower than most people expect. A street-level window needs coverage to standing eye level from outside, which is not the same as from inside. Getting the height right is the entire job, and it is why we measure on site rather than quote from a floor plan.
One-way and reflective options
Where the requirement is to see out but not be seen in, one-way vision and reflective films do that in daylight, with the effect reversing after dark when the inside is lit and the outside is not. It is worth knowing that before it is installed rather than afterwards, so we say it plainly.
Window Film Types and What They Do
Buyers arrive on this page with one word, “film”, and mean one of six different things. This table sorts that out and it is the section most likely to earn a featured snippet.
| Film type | What it does | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Frosted / etched-effect | Obscures the view, passes light, reads as sandblasted glass | Meeting rooms, partitions, office doors |
| Privacy banding | Blocks a specific sightline at a set height | Desk and screen privacy, seated sightlines, street-level glass |
| Manifestation | Makes a full-height glass pane visible | Glass doors, sidelights, full-height partitions |
| Decorative and patterned | Privacy plus a designed finish | Reception, feature glass, interior schemes |
| Printed and branded | Carries logos, artwork and messaging on the glass | Reception, storefronts, campaign windows |
| One-way vision / reflective | See out without being seen in, in daylight | Street-level offices, back of house |
Window Film by Sector
- Corporate offices and fit-outs. The core of this work. Partitions, meeting rooms, boardroom doors, floor and room identification. Installed out of hours on occupied floors, which is most of the time.
- Professional services. Law, finance and consultancy, where a visible screen is a confidentiality problem rather than an inconvenience.
- Healthcare and clinics. Treatment room and reception privacy, on film that tolerates frequent cleaning.
- Gyms and studios. Street-level privacy for people who would rather not be watched exercising, usually combined with branding on the same glass.
- Retail and storefronts. Back-of-house privacy, fitting rooms, and printed film on the shopfront glass.
- Education. Classroom and office door vision panels, privacy where it is needed and clear glass where supervision requires it.
- Multifamily and amenity spaces. Gym, lounge and meeting room glass across a building, applied to one specification.
From Site Measure to Installed Film
- Site measure. Every pane measured, and the sightline established from where people actually sit and stand. This is what decides the band height.
- Film and pattern chosen. Frosted, patterned, printed or one-way, with a sample where the finish matters.
- Layout drawing. A drawing of the film on your actual glass, including any lettering or logos, for approval before cutting.
- Cutting and printing. Cut and printed in our own facility, paneled to suit the pane sizes.
- Glass preparation. The glass cleaned and prepared on site. Film failures are nearly always contamination on the glass, not the film.
- Application. Wet-applied and squeegeed by our own installers, out of hours where the floor is occupied, with the space left clean.
Why Businesses Choose Velement for Window Film
We are sign makers, not just film fitters
The film and the lettering on it are made by the same team, so the boardroom door gets its name cut into the frost rather than a plaque beside it.

We measure the sightline, not just the pane

Frequently Asked Questions About Window Film
What is the difference between frosted and privacy window film?
They usually describe the same product from different angles. Frosted film is the finish, an even sandblasted look that passes light while obscuring the view. Privacy film is the purpose. Most privacy jobs are solved with frosted film, either full height or as a band at a set height, so if you are searching for one you probably want the other.
How much privacy does frosted window film actually give?
Full obscuring of detail, not of light or movement. You will see that someone is on the other side but not who they are or what is on their screen. If you need complete blockout, that is a different film and we will tell you so.
Can window film be removed later?
Yes, and this is one of its main advantages over etched or sandblasted glass. Applied properly it comes off cleanly, which is why it is the standard answer for leased space that has to be returned to its original condition.
Can you put our logo or room names on the film?
Yes, and this is what we are set up for. Logos, room names, floor and department identification can be printed on the film, cut into it or reversed out of it. We make the signage as well as fitting the film, so it is one job rather than two suppliers.
What height should privacy film be?
It depends entirely on what has to be hidden and from where. Screen privacy, seated privacy in a meeting room and street-level privacy from outside all need different heights, and the last one is not the same measured from inside. We establish it on site, which is why we measure rather than quote from a plan.
Does one-way film work at night?
No, and it is better to know that in advance. One-way and reflective films work while the outside is brighter than the inside. After dark, with the lights on inside, the effect reverses.
Do you install the film, or supply it only?
We install it, with our own teams. Glass preparation is where film jobs succeed or fail, so we do not hand that step to anyone else.
How long does window film installation take?
A meeting room is usually a single visit. A full floor of partitions is phased across out-of-hours sessions. Tell us the deadline and the access arrangements when you enquire and we will confirm the schedule before you commit.
Which areas do you cover?
All five boroughs of New York City, plus Long Island, Westchester, northern New Jersey and Connecticut, from our facility in Hicksville, NY.
