Floor graphics for retail, malls, airports, convention centers, gyms, healthcare and events in NYC and the tri-state area.
Floor Graphics Specified for the Floor They Are Going On
The floor is the most-looked-at surface in most commercial buildings and the least used. People walk through a store watching where they are going, which is why a graphic on the floor gets read when a poster on the wall does not.
It is also the hardest surface to get a graphic to survive on. It takes footfall, wheels, cleaning machines, grit, and in New York six months a year of salt and slush walked in from the sidewalk. And unlike a wall, a floor graphic has a safety dimension: anything applied to a walking surface has to be finished so it does not become slippery, particularly when wet.
Velement brings 30 years of signage and graphics experience to floor graphics in New York. We identify the floor surface before specifying the media, we finish with slip-resistant laminate as standard, and our own teams apply it. For anamorphic 3D work we also establish the viewing position first, because a 3D floor graphic only resolves from the spot it was designed for.
What Makes a Floor Graphic 3D?
A true 3D floor graphic is anamorphic. The artwork is deliberately stretched and distorted so that, seen from one particular position, the distortion cancels out and the image appears to rise out of the floor or sink into it. A hole in the ground, a product on a plinth, a logo standing upright.
The part nobody mentions is the trade-off. The illusion works from the position it was designed for and weakens as you move away from it. So the first question on a 3D job is not what the artwork should be, it is where the person looking at it will be standing: at the top of an escalator, at an entrance door, at the end of an aisle, or at a designated photo spot. We set the viewing position and the eye height, then build the distortion around it.
Three things people mean by 3D floor graphics
- Anamorphic illusion: flat print, distorted artwork, reads as three-dimensional from a defined viewing point. The real thing, and the one worth paying for.
- Photographic depth: an ordinary flat graphic using shadows and perspective imagery to suggest depth. Effective, viewable from anywhere, and much simpler.
- Textured or raised: physical relief in the surface. Rare on floors, because anything raised on a walking surface is a trip hazard.
Our Floor Graphics Services
3D Anamorphic Floor Graphics
Illusion graphics built around a defined viewing position, for entrances, atriums, escalator landings and photo moments.
Branded and Promotional Floor Graphics
Logos, campaign messaging and product callouts on the floor, refreshed on a promotional cycle.
Floor Wayfinding and Directional Graphics
Arrows, routes, zone markers and footprints that move people through a space without adding another sign to the ceiling.
Retail Aisle and Point of Purchase Graphics
In-aisle and in-front-of-fixture graphics, produced in matched batches so every store gets the same set.
Carpet Graphics and Decals
Printed on carpet-specific media that grips the fibers, because standard floor vinyl will not stay down on carpet.
Event and Exhibition Floor Graphics
Stand floors, sponsor graphics and route marking to a fixed install date, removable cleanly afterwards.
Industrial and Safety Floor Marking
Zone, bay and hazard marking for warehouses and plant rooms, on media specified for wheeled traffic.
Permanent Floor Graphics
Long-life installations for lobbies and building entrances, sealed and laminated for years rather than a season.
Temporary and Campaign Floor Graphics
Removable media for promotions and short runs that has to come off cleanly without stripping the floor finish.
Slip Resistance and Safety
This section does not exist on the live page and it should be the most prominent thing on it. Floor graphics are the only product in this project with a genuine safety dimension, and for a commercial buyer, a property manager or a facilities team it is the first objection, not the last.
Anything applied to a walking surface changes how that surface behaves underfoot, particularly when it is wet. A floor graphic finished with an ordinary gloss print laminate can be noticeably more slippery than the floor around it. Floor graphics intended for commercial premises are therefore finished with slip-resistant laminate, and slip resistance is a measurable property with recognized test methods rather than a matter of opinion.
- Slip-resistant laminate as standard: specified on every commercial floor graphic rather than offered as an upgrade.
- Wet and dry performance: entrances, lobbies and anywhere near a door in a New York winter are wet surfaces for months, and that is the condition that matters.
- Edge treatment: edges sealed and rolled down so nothing lifts, catches a shoe or peels under a cleaning machine.
- Cleaning regime: graphics specified for the cleaning method actually used, because a rotary scrubber and a mop are very different tests.
- Placement: we advise against positions where a graphic would sit on a ramp, a stair tread or an obvious wet zone, rather than taking the order and leaving the risk with you.
Floor Surfaces and the Right Media
The floor decides the material, and this is the table that stops a buyer ordering the wrong thing. The live page mentions tiled and gymnasium floors only.
| Floor surface | What it needs | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Sealed concrete | Standard floor vinyl with slip-resistant laminate | The most forgiving surface. Needs the sealer intact. |
| Vinyl, LVT and linoleum | Standard floor vinyl, removable where the floor is leased | Check the floor polish. Heavy polish can stop adhesion. |
| Ceramic and stone tile | Conformable media that beds into the grout lines | Wide grout lines need media that will follow them or the graphic bridges and lifts |
| Polished stone and marble | Low-tack or removable media, laminate chosen for the sheen | Premium floors: removability matters more than lifespan |
| Carpet | Carpet-specific media that grips the pile | Standard floor vinyl does not work here. Different product entirely. |
| Textured or rough concrete | Heavy conformable media, or a rethink | Deep texture is the one surface where we may advise against a graphic |
| Gymnasium and sports floors | Media and adhesive compatible with the floor finish | Sprung and lacquered floors are sensitive. Confirm the finish first. |
| Exterior paving and asphalt | Exterior-rated media with aggressive adhesive | Short-life by nature. Weather and traffic both work against it. |
Floor Graphics by Sector
- Retail and shopping malls. Aisle graphics, promotional messaging, in-front-of-fixture branding and mall concourse wayfinding. Installed overnight and changed on a campaign cycle.
- Airports and transport. Queue management, route marking and high-impact brand placements in concourses, on floors that are cleaned mechanically every night.
- Convention centers and events. Stand floors, sponsor graphics and route marking to a fixed date, removed cleanly afterwards.
- Gyms and studios. Zone marking, class layout and brand graphics on sprung and rubber floors, where the floor finish dictates the adhesive.
- Healthcare and medical centers. Departmental wayfinding and floor routes, on media that tolerates frequent mechanical cleaning.
- Warehousing and industrial. Bay, zone and hazard marking specified for forklift and pallet truck traffic rather than footfall.
- Corporate lobbies and offices. Entrance logos and permanent feature graphics on stone and polished floors, where removability protects the floor.
From Floor Survey to Installed Graphic
- Floor survey. We identify the surface, its condition and its finish, and note the cleaning regime and the traffic it takes.
- Viewing position, on 3D work. Where the viewer will stand and at what eye height. This is what the anamorphic distortion is built around, and it cannot be decided later.
- Media and laminate specified. Print media matched to the surface, with slip-resistant laminate and the right adhesive for permanent or removable use.
- Artwork and distortion. Files checked at finished size, and on 3D work the artwork built to the survey geometry and shown back as a visual from the intended viewpoint.
- Adhesion test where the floor is unknown. A small sample applied and lifted before the full job, on polished, sealed or unusual floors.
- Printing and finishing. Printed in our own facility, laminated and contour cut to shape.
- Floor preparation and application. The floor cleaned and dried properly, then applied and rolled by our own teams, out of hours where the space is trading.
Why Businesses Choose Velement for Floor Graphics
We identify the floor before we quote
Carpet, polished stone, sealed concrete and vinyl tile are four different jobs, and guessing is how floor graphics fail.
Slip-resistant laminate as standard
Not an upgrade, not an afterthought. It is a walking surface.
We set the viewing position on 3D work
The anamorphic distortion is built around where people actually stand, which is the difference between an illusion and a stretched picture.
We test adhesion when the floor is unusual
A sample applied and lifted before committing the whole job.
30 years in signage and graphics
We also do the wall and window work, so a floor scheme can be matched to everything else in the space.
Installed by our own teams
Floor preparation is where these jobs succeed or fail, and out-of-hours application is standard.
Frequently Asked Questions About Floor Graphics:
What are 3D floor graphics?
A 3D floor graphic is anamorphic: the artwork is deliberately distorted so that from one particular viewing position the distortion cancels out and the image appears to rise out of the floor or sink into it. It is a flat print. The illusion comes from the geometry, which is why the viewing position has to be decided before the artwork is built.
Do 3D floor graphics work from every angle?
No, and any supplier who says otherwise is selling you a flat graphic. The illusion is strongest from the position it was designed for and weakens as you move away. That is why we establish the viewpoint first, usually an entrance, an escalator landing or a designated photo spot.
Are floor graphics slippery?
Not when they are finished properly. Commercial floor graphics are laminated with slip-resistant film, and slip resistance is a measurable property rather than a matter of opinion. Wet performance is what matters most, particularly near entrances. We specify for that and we will advise against placements we think are unwise.
Will a floor graphic damage our floor?
Not with the right media. For leased space, premium stone and polished floors we use removable or low-tack media designed to lift cleanly. Tell us at survey stage if the floor has to be returned to its original condition.
Can you put graphics on carpet?
Yes, on carpet-specific media that grips the pile. Standard floor vinyl does not adhere to carpet, which is the single most common reason a carpet graphic fails. It is a different product, not a different setting.
How long do floor graphics last?
It depends on the traffic, the surface, the cleaning method and whether the media was chosen for permanent or temporary use. A promotional graphic in a store aisle and a permanent lobby logo are specified completely differently. Tell us how long you need it and we will specify for that.
Can floor graphics be removed?
Yes, when removable media is specified from the start. Retrofitting removability is not possible, so it is worth saying at the briefing whether the graphic has a known end date.
Do you install floor graphics yourselves?
Yes, with our own teams and usually out of hours. Floor preparation is where these installations succeed or fail, so we do not hand that step to anyone else.
Which areas do you cover?
All five boroughs of New York City, plus Long Island, Westchester, northern New Jersey and Connecticut, from our facility in Hicksville, NY.
